Ludlow Tri ClubLudlow Triathlon Club was formed 2 years ago in response to the growth of the sport within the town. For ten years there has been a sprint triathlon in Ludlow and there has also been strong representation at the age group world champs from local people – at least 4 that I can think of – quite amazing from such a small town. The club is currently running as a social forum with no set organised training schedule for seniors although there is a 2hour session for juniors every Friday evening running at Lucton school. This is run by BTF qualified coach Mark Warren with help from many of the parents. Like many triathletes, most of the seniors train alone – driven mostly by work and family commitments. We do have a 1hr session in Ludlow Leisure Centre Pool on Thursday evenings that we share with the Masters Swimmers from Ludlow Swimming Club and usually we get out for a ride together once or twice a year. This however doesn’t stop individuals arranging to meet up and train together. Most weeks if you fancy a ride or a run then someone will be doing something suitable that you can tag along to. Sunday mornings are usually long bike ride time and members of the club often join up with the Ludlow CC ride out. Details can always be found on their website. For newcomers to triathlon the club offers a 12 week training programme running up to the Ludlow triathlon that takes place at the end of September. This involves a combination of running, cycling and swimming training along with sessions coaching through the triathlon transitions. We also offer free entry to the Ludlow Sprint Triathlon for newcomers Overall the club is run by the members for the members; and whilst the specific training sessions around the Ludlow triathlon are more formally organised, joint training is carried out on an ad hoc basis but with the overall intention of progressing the sport locally. The first event of the year is likely to be the Burntood Aquathon on Sunday 8th March in Lichfield. Entry forms can be found here http://www.burntwoodtriclub.org . It is open to juniors and seniors and we are hoping t take as many of the juniors and a group from Ludlow Swimming Club along. We’ll also see if we can replicate last years Lower Hayton Duathlon. This was a 2 mile run – 10 mile bike – 2 mile run. James Smith was an easy winner last year. It was followed by baked spuds and cups of tea which was much better than running and cycling. Mike
